According to Rajeev Chandrasekhar, India’s minister of electronics and information technology, Elon Musk’s Tesla is serious about setting up a manufacturing unit there, according to Reuters. Top executives from the electric vehicle manufacturer recently travelled to India to discuss with ministers about establishing manufacturing there.

According to the report, the Tesla representatives also spoke with Indian officials on incentives for the production of cars and batteries.

According to the minister’s official statement, “They [Tesla] are very seriously looking at India as a production and innovation base.” This is the first statement on the discussions made by a representative of the Indian government. He continued, “We have let them know that the Indian government is cooperating with them and will undoubtedly help them achieve their goals for investments in India.”

According to the article, senior Tesla executives suggested building an electric vehicle facility in India. They are also considering producing EV batteries.

If they spoke with Tesla about anything besides making cars, the minister was questioned. Chandrasekhar said that it was far more than that to this.
